After six years and more than fifty authors, the Unholy Trinity is complete. This third installment in the DOA series offers thirty stories from the originators of splatterpunk as well as the newest voices in extreme horror.

⚰️ 🛀 🤢 Calvin was a regular, horny kid. But he should have thought about that fantasy for a little while longer. No patience these days.
SKIPP’S SPLATTERPUNK ALPHABET SOUFFLE by John Skipp
I don’t normally pick anthology favorites, I try to just hit on each story.
But…SKIPP’S SPLATTERPUNK ALPHABET SOUFFLE is one that should be on everyone’s ‘Must Read’ list.
TAKEAWAY NIGHT by T.M. McLean
💩 I can barely read about emetophilia and/or coprophilia without gagging, and this was tough for a minute. But, I got a chuckle, too. 🤢
BURNT by Luciano Marano
🔥 Vicki is driven by the burn. By the beauty of it. And she just wants her world to be a beautiful place to live. “Burn wards are Satan’s art gallery“.
JUNK by Ryan Harding
🤢 🔪 ☢️ A Viral Virus ss – jam packed with cringe inducing imagery, hilariously grotesque metaphors, and hyperbole for days 😝
My Ryan Harding books look like rainbows; full of highlighted words & phrases that I never want to forget, but sadly cannot seem to slip into every day conversations.
THE PACKAGE by Kristopher Rufty
📦 We all want to do the right thing, love the neighbor and all that. But when your inner freak-tard detector starts binking red, listen to your inner voice. Call me a cunt, but I’ll still be alive!
RED by Richard Christian Matheson
I need to thank this brilliant mind that gave me “Three O’clock High”, (as well as many stories that I’ve loved, but didn’t realize who the author was 😕)
8 OUT OF 10 by Daniel I. Russell
😼 A battle of wills between a mother and her son. 😾
THE MACHINE by Bentley Little
If you think hard enough, you can use anything to jerk off with. But finding out that your dirty little thingamajig was made to be exactly that… it kinda takes some of the romance out of it.

💸 🔪 I always look forward to Jeff’s sense of humor – in all it’s flavors.
“…that’s a mentally ill thing to do. That’s for somebody who drools and wears necklaces made out of body parts. I don’t wear necklaces made out of body parts, I will never wear necklaces made out of body parts, and I don’t appreciate you trying to make me feel guilty about not wearing necklaces made out of body parts.”
METAL HEAT by Jaap Boekestein

REPULSIVE GLAMOUR by John McNee
A drug. A transformation, if you’re one of the lucky ones. A very painful death if your not.
Pssst… Hey, John… ‘Degredatia’ is the best character name ever!
THE BITCH by Kristopher Triana
🔗 This is a tale of terror and revenge, (with some new and interesting forms of brutality!). It also had a couple of twisty turns that took me by surprise! I’ll definately be looking into more work from this author, The Detained is on my Must Read list now (I remember getting BODY ART, and I need to get it in que!) I had to giggle a bit when I read the author bio and learned what Kristopher Triana does for a living, when he’s not writing that is. I have two more books on my Must Read list now, too! 🗜️
* A PERSONAL NOTE TO KRISTOPHER TRIANA:
I’d be very excited to see the New & Improved Emma taken further. Her recently acquired ‘treasure’ is a story begging to be told as well!
‘This is an extremely sadistic story that should only be read by the seasoned extreme-horror reader.’
Synopsis: Jake lost his wife and unborn daughter on a West Texas highway when three police officers abused their authority. The pigs thought they had got off scot-free until Jake took justice into his own hands.
First thing first – I’ve waited way too long to pick up Wade’s work. Truth? I’m the farthest thing from a book snob – we know this, but… I think that (maybe) I did judge the books by their covers at first ::cringe:: I know! It’s inexcusable! I realized I’d misjudged Wade when I read his short in Matt Shaw’s The Devil’s Guests. So, I picked up Insane Bastards right when it came out, (the synopsis sucked me right in!), and knew I had been missing out. (Dark & twisted humor gets me every time!) I went ahead and grabbed the complete “A Glimpse into Hell” series instead of picking them up one by one, and I’m glad I did because I couldn’t stop!
PIGS is an extremely satisfying story!
If you’re ever been in a situation involving the cops, you know it’s hard to remain calm, and if you’re being bullied by that superiority complex in a blue suit – your blood just boils in your helpless body. You might think you know what Jake was going through when he was pulled over while rushing his pregnant wife to the ER, but you have no idea! That shit is infuriating! I was getting pissed when I was reading, and The Dark Defender told me to be quiet – twice.
Wade’s writing goes next level sick & twisted, but… all of his torture is very original, and there are damn good stories under all the carnage! Every time I had to stop reading because life came calling I was so frustrated! Learn from my mistake, and don’t hesitate to grab anything of his. They’re all available with KU, too.
Felo de se
Latin for “Felon of himself.”
1. A person who commits suicide or an unlawful malicious act resulting in his or her death.
2. An act of deliberate self-destruction
*A story that made this reviewer get a little emotional, and this discussion a little squishy. Don’t get used to it.
The Darkest of Fiction
This isn’t the extreme horror of Shaun’s that we’ve discussed in the past, but it is ‘the darkest of fiction’. Taken from the introduction: “The monster in this story is not some creature hiding in your closet or a thug in an alleyway with a knife. It’s something everyone can and probably has struggled with. Some writers would stay away from this topic to protect their readers. I won’t do that. The subject matter is meant to make you uncomfortable. If it makes you angry, good. If it makes you cry, good. I hope my words use your emotions as paints and splash them across a black canvas. And no. I did not mean ‘blank.’”
Felo De Se is just what his profile promises – ‘a story that will tug at your heartstrings one moment and the next, shake you to your very core, sending you on an emotional rollercoaster into the darkest corners of your imagination.’
When his life went down a dark path and was too much for him to handle, Jeremy Price took the only option he thought he had left. Jeremy ended his life and now his family and friends have to deal with the aftermath. Only Jeremy will be there with them as well.
This is not the end of Jeremy Price.
His spirit will not move on to any sort of afterlife. He must wander his hometown, watching those who cared for him. His wife and two kids. A friend. His father. A childhood acquaintance. They all ask themselves why Jeremy did what he did, trying to solve a puzzle no one really wants to solve and one, Jeremy might not even have the answer to.
This story is tearing me up inside, and I keep imagining how Shaun had to feel while researching, and writing, (or dealing with personally). It’s a hard subject to talk about from every angle. Quoted from story: ‘It’s impossible to describe and even harder to survive.’. My dad said something once that really stuck with me, “Suicide is contagious”. Sadly, it’s true.
I realize that Jeremy Price is a fictional character, but I really wish I’d known him.
Every story within these pages seems to reach out and touch me on a very personal level, (if it isn’t something specific in my own life, it is specific in someone’s life very close to me.) Every one.
Each character could be me, or someone near and dear to my heart.
The six bonus stories included here are no exception. (We’ll sort through the extreme horror characters later, but I’m sure we’ll find ourselves in there somewhere, too.)
I can’t seem to articulate all the emotions I’m experiencing today after all the feels, but no matter what the future holds, TODAY… I want to be a better person.
Bonus Content includes six short stories:
Jon’s Cabin: Touching, and inspirational – the power of love is limitless.
Fly Me Home: Oh my Dog. You know that one country song that you can’t listen to because you instantly turn into a snotty and blubbery mess? Multiply that song times 10.
The Bench: A lifetime of thoughts can pass in a matter of moments.
An entire life can be changed, and damaged even quicker.
I Try My Best: What a roller coaster. I know Ashley’s mom.
A Different Kind of Love Story: This is a truly amazing story.
I’m afraid to blink because I’ll ruin my eye make-up, but my heart is full of warm fuzzies from this Different Kind of Love Story.
Poor Man’s Coat: ‘People do not value what is truly priceless.’ Outstanding story! I’m running out of ways to tell you how much I’ve changed today.
P.S. I caught that shout out to William Malmborg 👍 Always a classy move.
If you are going through struggles, there are people you can talk to.

Someone is there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You are not alone.
You can really get to know someone in thirty days.
– Just ask Morgan Spurlock.
The faces that people show to the world are not always the same faces that look into our eyes when no one else is around – the ones trying to melt our soul with a mere glance.
I’m speaking generally, of course.
BUT… if my now mother-in-law would have come to stay with me and The Dark Defender way back when… I seriously would have just shot myself. I’d love to tell you that we’re now best of friends all these years later – but my lies smell like a fart in a car, so I’m not even going to try. (We’re getting a lot better with our face to face time though!)
Crystal is hoping to have a very different experience.
Her soon-to-be mother-in-law is coming to stay for a whole month, and she hopes that they’ll really be able to bond during that time. So what if she is just finding out what a mama’s boy her fiance is? Why should it bother her that they don’t speak English when they’re talking around her? She is just imagining those smug, self satisfied sneers coming from Mommy Dearest across the dinner table… right?
One month. That’s enough time to learn their habits, and get used to their quirks. It might even be enough time for everyone to start showing their real selves to one another…
Good luck, Crystal!
Optical Delusion centers around a gag-gift, ordered from the back of comic book, that begins to consume a man’s life.
Martin can’t stop peeking – but, for him, it’s all in the name of science! ::dramatic eye roll:: The fun is long over when Martin realizes that he has taken peeping too far, and there are just some things just can’t be unseen.
I love how Hunter Shea builds the story up!
You can feel the main characters inner conflict & turmoil in the beginning, but his desire to see more soon overrides any sense of guilt he may have once had.
It’s so much fun riding along as Martin loses his grip, and slides faster & further down that slippery slope!
I know I’d be in the same boat, My need to poke my nose into everything is already out of control – having x-ray specs would turn me into a fa-reak!
