Rayne published Lost Soul on December 31st, (her birthday), so it’s only fitting that since I didn’t get to read it on her birthday, I read it for my birthday! Well, my birthday is tomorrow, so…
A Godless exclusive.
May, drowning in her depression, and desperate for the end, decides that it’s time to let go.
May: “On what was supposed to be my last day alive, I finally found a reason to want to live. But if I wanted to save my soul, I’d have to die for it.”
I feel for May right now, let me tell ya. How heavy everything is in the morning, so hard to move, and already pissed off because you woke up at all. But, for her, a reason to stay sweeps in right before the final credits roll. Did it though? Is there time for her to face her demons before the screen fades to black? That’s what you’re going to find out when you scoop up your copy of LOST SOUL @ Godless.com.
This is a really great story, and a side of Rayne I’ve never read before. I’m not surprised – not at all. I’m excited to see what else may be hiding under all that blood, viscera, and revenge. She does have a little something to say for everyone who reads it though…
Dreams die in sheds in Suburban Hell, traded for garden decorations so the neighbours can see how well everyone conforms. Matthew was a popstar, once. His band went on and made it without him, so now every night he goes to the shed to jerk off over his keytar, the one Karen wants him to give up so that she can get higher-tier garden decorations. But too much semen could break his beloved instrument, so Matthew builds Sparky, a robot that takes his cum.
One night, Sparky comes to life, but soon discovers he has no voice. And why would he? Matthew built him to swallow spunk, not to speak. Left in the shed after he serves his purpose, Sparky sets out on a journey to find a voice. Along the way he meets Sandy, a robot like him, only Sandy is powered by a different man, an evil man. Together, Sparky and Sandy scour every inch of their neighbourhood, breaking into nearby garden sheds, exposing the neighbours, all in search of a voice for Sparky the Spunky Robot.
Dani wrote about the first ‘Karen‘ before ‘Karen’ was a thing, and she is quite the biotch of the story, let me tell ya. She is everything that a Karen is, and more. This Karen is a dream killer, slowly turning Matthew into a cuck, all the while trying to out-do the Jones’ in a neighborhood out of an Ira Levin fever dream.
I can’t really describe more than the synopsis already has, but once Sparky comes to life he has his own opinions about Karen, but has no voice to share them. Sparky searches the neighborhood, and everyone’s shed of sins, and broken dreams – (it helps to keep the rest of the neighborhood appear bright & shiney), to find his voice, and learns a lot along the way. Sounds like a fairy tale almost, doesn’t it? Wicked Witch of a wife, a quest to find a sacred object, a romance, and a possible happily ever after (I’m not saying anything, they could all blow the fuck up, you don’t know!) So it’s like a fairy tale – just with lots and lots of cum!
I gotta say – I loved this story! Dani has a lot more for me to explore, so keep an eye out! Her book THE SCRATCHING POST in the FUCKING SCUMBAGS BURN IN HELL series from Godless is awesome – (I decided to review the entire series as one post, and it will be posted very soon).
Suitably labelled “The Queen of Filth”, extremist author Dani Brown’s style of dark and twisted writing and deeply disturbing stories has amassed a worrying sized cult following. Merging eroticism with horror, torture and other areas that most authors wouldn’t dare, each of Dani’s titles will crawl under your skin, burrow inside you, and make you question why you are coming back for more.

This really is a awesome surprise, and the story itself is particularly brutal. And, Holy Snowballs, I did not expect that ending!!
That’s all you get from me. Except for one last little poke at ya, just to be festive… If you don’t find a way to get your peepers on a copy of your own, you’ll be missing out on the greatest opening line since once T’was The Night Before Christmas! (Ash, that is truly awesome, high five! 🖐️)
I think that deserves a 10 Christmas Tree rating, because it’s my site, and I’ll do what I want 😜 Hahaha!! Until next post – stay safe, stay healthy, and stay on Santa’s Nice List!
Christmas brings out the best and worst in many people the world over — thus, lighting a fire in the bellies of storytellers who wish to strike warm fuzzies or tantalising terror in reader’s hearts. You won’t find the warm fuzzy feeling here; that’s not what we do!Don’t forget the milk and cookies, you’re going to need some extreme comforting while reading this collection of frightful festive horror shenanigans!*
After releasing several best-selling anthology series, I wanted to do something new. Having worked with a tremendous number of authors over the years, I decided to gather some of my favourites together and do an unthemed book. [Best of Indie Horror, and The Best Of Indie Horror Christmas Edition] are the result of that idea. Inside the covers, you will find an array of styles covering a wealth of sub genres. I present you with, the best of indie horror. ~ Kevin J. Kennedy
I don’t have this blog just to #SupportIndieHorror, I LOVE reading indie horror, and that’s how this blog was born. Almost a decade later and things have only gotten better! And I’m far from alone – we’ve watched authors grow, get famous, watched their books turn into movies, it’s crazy! I love being able to turn to The Dark Defender and say “OMG, I’m friends with them!” We’ve watched this genre grow, too! It’s never been easier for us Extreme Horror fans to find someone new to check out. Keven put together a kick ass collection of indie authors for this book of crazy Christmas shenanigans! Some names you’ll surely recognize, and a few you’ll be reading for the first time here. Check out this line up…
The book begins the way all holidays should – with traditions! TRADITION by Steve Stred in this case. Jacob, a man obsessed with Christmas. His quest for this year’s family tree begins with a heavenly spa, but things go south (see what I did there 😂) quickly when Jacob makes his first cut into o tannenbaum.
From there, see what Lex H. Jones has in store on the TOP FLOOR: SEASONAL FURNISHINGS AND CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS. One of the men on the night shift janitorial crew, Thomas, finds a weird door while cleaning the department store he works in. He follows the path up the stairs and finds a whole floor of outdated Christmas supplies, and displays! As he looks around, he can’t believe how different it is from the way things are today. Then he starts to get dizzy… Doesn’t it seem odd to him that the doorway was blocked off and hidden behind a mural? He didn’t even think that maybe there’s a reason it was so well hidden. Now look at him. SMDH.
When we make our way back downstairs, RJ Roles pits scam artist against scam artist in PENNIES FOR SANTA. The generosity of strangers is bypassing Todd and his bell-ringer bucket this year. Seems that Santa’s little elves are working on something of their very own this season. As for Santa, well, read on …
CLITORIS KRAMPUS is one of my standouts among these cheerful holiday tales. Zoltán Komor brings us a love story where Mrs. Claus still adores her husband after all this time, and goes to great lengths to prove it. And that’s only the beginning, honey!
Veronica Smith fills us in on the true story of those creepy little trolls that follow Santa around in LET THE DAMN ELVES DIE ALREADY. It’s about little Candace, who saw her first elf at age six. Ten years later she sees the elves again, but this time it’s on HER terms.
Another stand out story from this collection is THE MALL SANTA by Eric Butler. After a failed job, a missing sister, and an eighteen month hiatus, a group of ‘friends’ reunite for one more score – they are going to rob Santa! Santa might have other plans though…
Patrick Reuman tells us a bedtime story about Santa’s origins in SANTA CLAWS. His real name, how he knows if you’ve been naughty or nice, and what happens to the naughty boys and girls after their parents lay them down for a long winter’s nap and Santa Claws comes to town.
I love the nod to The Devil’s Rejects in A LAST CHANCE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE by Matthew V. Brockmeyer. There’s a lot going on in this one, and is a little bleak. It’s a great story, but I kind of want to take a shower and shake it off, lol. There is a little light at the end of the tunnel – but not for everyone! Maybe that’s part of the miracle…
BLOOD, BULLETS, AND BAUBLES aren’t the only things in this festive short by David Owain Hughes. It also comes with hired assassins, zombie elves, and Klaws – you’ll find out exactly WHO he is when you read it.
You’ll find out that Matthew A. Clarke is about to bring us a fun yuletide yarn on the very first page of GOLDEN TICKET. The real ‘baubles’ show up one story late in the lineup! Telling your kids Christmas stories on Christmas Eve is a beautiful tradition, and it’s even more fun when you know you’re not supposed to be talking about this particular story. But, if you can’t talk about butt stuff on Christmas then what’s the point?
Kevin J. Kennedy wraps up this anthology by telling us a tale about a brother and sister that reunite to spend the holidays together for the first time since their parents died. Too bad they’re doing it in THE CHRISTMAS CABIN FROM HELL. Once they notice the three evil snowmen outside the only door, it’s probably already too late! I am really happy to tell you that this does not follow the typical horror movie formula, so Kev gets bonus points for that!

EDIT: That’s it for this one guys. It was scheduled to post days ago, but I screwed something up trying to schedule it, so… here we are. I have R&R many holiday horror anthologies over the years, I can’t get enough of ’em! Tell me what your favorite holiday collection is in the comments!
Steve Stred got me curious about other family holiday traditions… I want to hear about your family, and any weird things you might have to do every year. If you guys play along, I have a fun one to share with you!
Here’s the situation. Nik Robinson released a new title today called HAVE YOU SEEN ME? (obviously based on my favorite Gwar song). He’s in FB jail for being dopey. So, he can’t promote the title anywhere but Twitter, Vine, Ello, Parler, and MySpace. Nik has done so much promotion for everyone else that it goes without saying that you should help him out. Please. Please. Please. Pay it forward and help out our good friend. Oh. He can also post on YikYak, Friendfeed, and Google Plus. Nikolas P. Robinson
When his teenage daughter disappears, a former cop learns he will do anything to find her. In his search he will plummet to lows he’d never dreamt possible, braving trials that test the limits of his imagination and his intestinal fortitude. How far would you go to save the life of your only child?
IDK if I’m overly organized, if it’s my ADD, or maybe I’m just a huge nerd, but I love lists. I have stacks of lists to do, to buy, to read, to research… Sometimes, if I am feeling particularly unproductive, I’ll make a reverse list, I write down something I’ve done, so I can cross it off. It’s cathartic.
I looked at a lot of influencers lists when I was planning my October ‘content’, but they don’t translate into what I blog about very easily. I think I found ways to make their lists work for me, I’m nothing if not inventive! So besides Top 5 or 10 lists, you’re going to get to see things like POST A TUTORIAL, PLAN AN INDUSTRY GATHERING, and if I can find something you want, I may even HOST A GIVEAWAY. All of their lists will be tried my way, so at the very least – it’ll be interesting! Maybe a couple of you will share my weird sense of… something, and like what I’m trying! As always, leave me comments so I know if I should do more, or ‘never ever try that again!’
Lists are harder that I thought they’d be! So I am going to start with what I thought would be the easiest idea…
1: RED by D.J. Doyle
2. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE by Anthony Burgess
3. YELLOW by Aron Beauregard
4. THE GREEN FOG by Sam West
5. THE BLUE WAR by Jeffry Thomas
6. VIOLET by Scott Thomas
7. BILLY SILVER by Daniel Volpe
8. WHITE WALLS & STRAIGHT JACKETS by D.O. Hughes
9. THE BLACK LAKE by Jon Athan
10. PINK PLANET by Jon R. Meyers
Do you have any better choices for this one, or do you trust me to continue making lists on my own? (With no adult supervision, you’re sure?) What kind of Top Ten do you think needs an [extreme] horror makeover? I have a couple started, but would love your input!
I’m still quarantined/isolated, but that just means no people, so it’s awesome. No sign of ‘Rona or Delta, so…bonus! My Mountain Dew is cold, and I’m about to eat some pizza 🍕 it’s a good day. Until next time, my little Tricks and Treats… Stay safe out there!
Jon Athan, the illustrious author of The Abuse of Ashley Collins and Grandfather’s House, brings you his 50th novel with this story of family and tragedy, discipline and abuse, and good deeds and bad consequences.

Amazon Product Description
Wow. Just… wow.
Jon Athan celebrates the release of his 50th novel with his bleakest story to date. I just wanted to shower and go to bed with my teddy bear. There are places where I just wanted to scream at the father, and times I broke down in tears for all Sydney has endured. The abuse is coming from every direction, and this twisted man who is her father finds ways to justify everything he is doing to his own flesh and blood. And once justified, the next step is so much easier to take, so it just gets worse, and worse.
And that’s just the first part of the story – minus an agonizing, gut-wrenching part that hasn’t been spoken of, so no spoilers here. Can Sydney’s salvation come from a teenage boy? Did you read Jeff Strand’s Autumn Bleeds to Winter? That gave me more faith to put into the teenage hero angle, so yeah, I can see that. But Jon Athan keeps things more true to life with the cluster fuck of events that follow here, every bad decision stacking up like a horrific Jenga. Watch out, because when those blocks come tumbling down, you still won’t be prepared.

Normally, I prefer to have Alexa read to me, or even the TTS in the Kindle Fire I have is pretty good – compared to my last Kindle anyway. My point being… I’m used to Alexa, and my older, British mom type reading me my extreme horror when necessary. In most of the audio books I’ve tried, the narrator pulls me out if the story, if I’m ever able to get there in the first place. That is not the case here. The woman doing the audio for Donn, TX made the story! I’m going to have to come back to edit her name in I think. I can only remember Micha. Just so you know, my fingers are crossed, and I’m hoping she comes back to narrate ‘every year’ 😉 In 1952 we are traveling with a young couple on a road trip to see her parents, and the ‘her’ is very, very pregnant. She is having a hard go of things, puking every few miles, and it’s time to take a rest for the night. In Donn, Texas. ♪ donn donn DONNNNN ♪ Head to Eric Butler’s website to get the lay if the land, and find out what happens during the couple’s siesta – you can download a copy of the written book, or listen to the audio free on the page. Every month or so there will be another addition to the Donn, TX Universe. They will come out as eBooks and Audio Books. Around every 50,000 words produced, the stories will be collected into a paperback edition. This way there are a number of ways for you to enjoy and consume The Donn, TX Collection.
