AUTUMN BLEEDS INTO WINTER by Jeff Strand

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Jeff is going to be so famous.
He is already well known, but I mean ooper-duper famous. Watch and see.
I also predict that AUTUMN BLEEDS INTO WINTER is going to be made into a movie. It’s going to be the kind of movie that has you yelling at the screen, cursing at the characters, and pacing the floor. I did all three while reading the book! The author picks you up, and sets you down right in the story, and I couldn’t tear myself away until the very end.

Curtis has had a pretty normal life up till now, normal enough for any fourteen year old in 1979. He knows that kids are missing – being snatched up by an unknown psychopath, because nothing like that really happens to you, right? Especially in Fairbanks, where the darkest it gets this time of year would remind you of early evening anywhere else. Bad things happen in the dark… Don’t they?

Everything changes in the span of a bad yo’ mama joke.

You remember being fourteen… (if you don’t, you will! It all came rushing back while reading this!), sleepovers, junk food, bad jokes, farts, all of it happening with your best friend by your side… Jeff paints the awkwardness of adolescence so perfectly that I’d find myself cringing I’m remembrance of my teenage years. I’m hoping this one example can convey everything I’m trying to explain… The boys are sleeping over at Curtis’s house, and they get into an argument. For one reason or another, Todd gets way more pissed than usual and he’s just done. Eff this, I’m going home. Been there, both sides. Remember, it’s 1979, you don’t wake the ‘rents for these things. Just after Todd leaves, Curtis decides he needs to follow him. Not because he wants to apologize, or to make sure Todd makes it home OK. No. He’s going after him so he can scare the shit out of him before he makes it home! It’s not being childish. It’s not being mean. It’s being fourteen, with your best friend.
Before he gets the chance to scare him, Curtis sees a car pull up and someone start talking to Todd. His mind races as he watches his best friend willingly get into a strangers car at 1:am, and drive away. While he’s trying to think of any reason that this isn’t what he knows in his heart that it is, Curtis realizes something very important… he knows who is driving that car!

That’s just the beginning of the story. Just wait until you see how tough it is for a fourteen year old to get any adult to take him seriously, and how many wrong turns he makes while trying to find the answers about what happened to his best friend. I know, I usually don’t give details like that. But A: we already know what’s happening from reading the synopsis, and B: I had to try to explain how Jeff is able to make you ride shotgun through everything that happens, experiencing everything as it happens. It’s a draining experience, so much happens and this story went places I never expected.
You’ve got to read this – highest of recommendations here.

UNBOUND by Ash Ericmore

I can easily see Ash Ericmore becoming one of my go-to authors!

My brain sees this, but my mouth says ‘Eric Ashmore

You know how book browsing goes… Pop on Amazon just to window shop… ‘Let’s see what Matt’s up to‘, ‘Maybe Jon surprised us and secretly published one we weren’t expecting‘, ‘Sea has new stuff coming‘, ‘What happened to The Barns Brothers‘, ‘Oh – I gotta check to see if Ash published anything new… OMG, CARNIE – what’s this?! ‘<—- That’s legit, he published a new one before I posted this 😁

Those words make me so happy! No, technically it’s not a new genre, but he is advertising the fact that it’s about to get twisted. [it did!] Ash’s humor is blacker than my mascara, his horror is disgusting, weird, and fresh… I’m hooked.

WARNING: This contains scenes of very bizarre and extremely violent death, along with some of the weirdest scenes of sex you might come across. It’s not really erotic … well … unless you’re into that sort of thing. Best consider this a trigger warning for just about everything.

Will is having one of those days. But not your average one of those days. It started badly and then went downhill with gusto. Now he’s going to summon a demon. You know, to get all murdery. Revenge. What could go wrong, right?

Beginning with some pretty vile acts, Unbound is a novella that only gets worse going forward. If you are of a sensitive nature, then you might want to give this one a miss, yes?

Amazon Product Page

This was fun, sick, and completely unexpected. I’m just in love with Will’s demon, we need to go out for coffee, or shots.
I’m going to be a very sad Shadow when these four five books are finished, and it’s taking every ounce of willpower to not finish them all up in one setting! (I can’t start a new one until the reviews are posted for the one I finished.)

You can find Ash Ericmore and pick up his books: UNBOUND, AGAINST TYPE, CULT, JANE DOE, and CARNIE on Amazon, and review them on Goodreads. I’ll edit in his social media ASAP.

Now, even though getting you to participate is like pulling a victim’s teeth, I still want to try, so, I’ll discuss, you go ahead and jump in when you’re ready – Which one of Ash’s titles do you want to read first? UNBOUND, AGAINST TYPE, CULT, JANE DOE, or CARNIE? Why that one? I’m dying to read AGAINST TYPE. It’s the first one I saw, and the first time I saw those three words string together so perfectly… Extreme Horror Comedy. It sounds like it’s going to be the most fun read of the bunch. I was going to read CULT next, maybe CARNIE. But, no. I could get hit by a bus tomorrow, so why wait! AGAINST TYPE it is! Leave your replies in the comments!

QUESTION FOR THE AUTHOR: Is it hard (see what I did there… I’m fluent in innuendo) to get all your books to end up exactly 69 pages?

This new three week ‘shelter in place’ order is not doing wonders for my mental health, but For The Greater Good and all that, right? Stick around and witness my decent into madness! Until next time, stay safe, sane, and healthy!

Like I said, technically not new, but… Hey, J.A. got a new sub-genre here, so I think Ash deserves this one!

Hogg

by Samuel R. Delany

The classic and controversial novel made available again; Acclaimed winner of the William Whitehead Memorial Award for a lifetime’s contribution to gay and lesbian literature, bestselling and award-winning SF author Samuel R. Delany wrote Hogg three decades ago. Since then it has been one of America’s most famous ‘unpublishable’ novels. The subject matter of Hogg is our culture of sexual violence and degeneration. Delany explores his disturbing protagonist Hogg on his own turf – rape, pederasty, sexual excess – exposing an area of violence and sexual abuse from the inside. As such, it is a brave but necessary book.

A shocking and contemporary insight into a parallel world of sex and cravings that lies in wait in the shadows of our own world.

“HOGG is the story of a man—a depraved trucker named Franklin Hargus, whom the people he works for call Hogg—and of the nameless boy who tells the story of three days of unspeakable sexual violence and devastation, which, together, they initiate in a small seaside American city in the middle of the last century. Hogg is a towering brute who makes his living as a rapist for hire. By the end of a series of vicious attacks, kidnappings, and mass murders, the reader will wonder who is more corrupt: the man or the boy.”

The narrator of Hogg is a Huck Finn–like youngster caught in society’s most sinister seams—but unlike Huck, he passes no moral judgments on the violence he takes part in . . .

Amazon

This got pretty gross.
But I had heard so many things about this novel of ‘sexual violence and degeneration’ that I had to read it. I’m really surprised that something this controversial was written over 30 years ago.
But, again… It got pretty gross.

You know what’s next, right? COWS. ‘Till next time…

A Fistful of Guts: The Heartless Heart-Ripper #2

Jon Athan

WARNING: This novel contains graphic content. Reader discretion is advised.

William Keller, known as the Traveling Surgeon, is terrorizing the streets of Florida with two accomplices. They capture their victims, then they ‘operate’ on them. When they’re finished, they steal their victims’ large intestines and leave a bloodbath behind them. Unable to capture them, Homicide Detective Jamie Mills requests assistance from a peer—Homicide Detective Harvey Skinner. Together, they continue Harvey’s experimental program.

Sam Lee, the Heartless Heart-Ripper, is released from death row once again and asked to do what he does best: capture, torture, release.

Jon Athan brings you the highly-anticipated sequel to The Good, the Bad, and the Sadistic in this gruesome story of questionable ethics, violent vengeance, and human horror.

I like how meaty this one is!

~sg

Jon Athan is back again with a splattery, gore drenched, and drippy piece of Unrelenting Human Horror that’s gonna fill your violence quota for about six months! The Heartless Heart-Ripper is in perfect form, ever the consummate professional. I appreciate a man who takes pride in his work.

I like how meaty this one is. The characters motivations, the ache of those who are skating the razors edge between good and evil, and, of course, the brutality. I could talk for an hour about the characters, but I’ll save it for a no-spoiler blog.
I’m excited to know that the next book is in the works, (omg, Eric! Right?!), but even more excited to know that there is a chance for ‘The Heartless Heart-Ripper’ – a pre-quel! THAT is going to be amazing, I already know it. I’m also glad I’m not alone anymore in liking “The House That Jack Built”.

The Taste of Blood

by Jon Athan

WARNING: This novel contains graphic content. Reader discretion is advised.

After being sexually abused by her nineteen-year-old boyfriend at a party, Genesis Hudson—a thirteen-year-old girl—believes she has become a vampire. Her hunger for human blood intensifies with each passing day. She craves it, she feels sick without it. Aubrey Horne, Genesis’ best friend, knows she is mentally unwell, but she needs time to help her. So, with an abundance of reluctance, she agrees to help Genesis find blood by any means necessary. And while doing so, she discovers a side to Genesis she’s never seen before…

How far can two girls go to find blood? Can Aubrey save Genesis from herself before it’s too late? Or has Genesis really become a vampire?

Jon Athan, the provocative author behind Our Dead Girlfriend and Mason’s Television, brings you a new grotesque coming-of-age horror novel filled with acts of depravity and violence.

BFF’s – Best Friends Forever? Well, one of them sure thinks so! With a little too much emphasis on the Forever.
Too bad she’s 🦇💩 crazy.
But, it’s one Hell of a best friend to go as far as this one went.

This is a really touching story about friendship. Ok, “really touching” to those of us who live on Planet Splatter… everyone else might have to look a little deeper, past the blood and gore, around the bodies, and over by the fridge, hahaha. I feel kind of shitty because there isn’t a chance that I would have put up with half of the mess that Aubrey does, much less go to the extremes she goes to just to try help Genesis – knowing all along that she’s 🦇💩. There were two points that I was hoping that the author would just jump script and take the vampire angle to a place where we could believe the story – that’s how hard I was rooting for the girls.

Of course I recommend it – it’s Jon Athan! Don’t miss it.

Trespassers

by Jon Athan

WARNING: This novel contains graphic content. Reader discretion is advised.

A group of young drug addicts—led by drug dealer Jared Hatcher—plan to rob the wealthy Cohen family on Halloween to escape their dead-end town outside of Las Vegas. They devise the perfect plan with the perfect victims and the perfect getaway. But one act of violence quickly leads to another, triggering a chain-reaction of never-ending mayhem.

Can the desperate trespassers successfully complete their robbery and leave their lives of despair? Or will the fragile Cohens fight back and save themselves?

Jon Athan, the author of Lovesick and Into the Wolves’ Den, presents a bleak, disturbing, and gory home invasion novel—an unforgettable night of desperation and carnage.

Original Goodreads and Amazon reviews lost –

A perfect plan, with perfect victims and a perfect getaway goes horrifyingly wrong – bringing brutal, and bloody results.
If your “Perfect Team” happens to end up being just the opposite – maybe give it a minute to rethink things, instead of trying to keep them abord with threats and violence.
(I’d stab a bitch in the throat for questioning my loyalty once things get rolling, and if said bitch tried that in front of a victim… I might not stop there. Who’s loyal now? This lonely rich gal right here 😉).
<—– yeah… in my dreams, right?! That was a dream sequence, haha! But I’m a badass too when I’m in the middle of a story, yelling out at the characters!!!

TRESPASSERS is available on Amazon and KU

Games 5: Donny by Sea Caummisar

Coming Soon From The Dark Mind of Sea Caummisar

41JqDq3UwML
Release date Sept 18, 2020 – I requested an ARC to R&R

Here’s a little refresher as to what happened in the Games 4: Maze…
Sara and Donny created a pain maze and forced people to go room to room, which eventually led to painful deaths. Sara was dealing with being pregnant, and after an injury she was put on bedrest for the sake of the unborn child. Donny decided to train the survivor of the maze as his own partner.
The survivor of the pain maze is doing everything in his power to become Donny’s best friend.
This book picks up where that book left off.

Scenes of graphic violence. You’ve been warned.

I think that this is my favorite book in this series. Let’s see, how much can I say without spoiling anything…
Book 5 feels like it has come full circle, everything has been touched upon, thought out, and dealt with, so knowing that Book 6 is coming feels like an added bonus.
I also love how the author’s different worlds are weaving together at the edges – connections are made that make us feel special for knowing these little details of ‘insider information’.
I appreciate Sara a little more than I did before. I know I have see-sawed with my opinion of her since meeting her, but I’m happy with where I’ve landed with regards to her character.
I absolutely adore Rick, and was pleasantly surprised by his arrival. He’s quirky and seems honestly friendly. I’m happy to see that he’s eating better.
I think that the idea of a seventh book isn’t out of the question. Games 7 – The Prequel: Andy’s Story could hold some very mind blowing groundwork.

Kink: A Tale of Extreme Horror by The Barns Brothers

NEW from #TheButcherBrothers

KINK is brought to you by Crowley Barns:
The long-depraved but newly-published Barns Brother.

CAUTION: EXTREME HORROR CONTAINED WITHIN
There is bloody violence, gore and sexual content contained within this twisted story. Consider yourself warned.

Cassie and Rich have been texting for a few days, and now it’s time to meet.
No commitments, no strings. Just one afternoon of rough, and kinky fun.
She has a very detailed fantasy, and she knew Rich was the guy to fulfill her every dark, twisted, and violent desire.

HOW WRONG COULD IT GO?

Her text told him to arrive at 4:15.
Not 4:14. Not 4:16. Exactly 4:15.
All of her instructions were very… precise, (read: anal). But, you gotta love a girl who knows what she wants! Playing the aggressor in a violent fantasy with a smokin’ hot, older woman sounds freakin’ HOT – Rich just hopes he can immerse himself into her fantasy completely.

How can one compulsively planned & timed afternoon go to shit so fast? How did things get so terribly, darkly, and disturbingly fucked up?

Never give one person your complete trust. Ever.

I just have one very small … ‘issue’ with KINK –
I started the book expecting a demented and fucked up ‘killer’/‘murderer’ story,
but it took a kind of ‘sci-fi’ or ‘creature horror’ turn at one point.
In any other story, I’d usually be pissed. But, I got into it, it worked, and I liked it!

Warren, Crowley, and Davey are The Barns Brothers (#TheButcherBrothers)
Authors of Extreme Horror, Sex & Violence, gut-wrenching Tales with a Twist, and Murderous Plots.

KINK is published by Broken Barn Publishing and can be found on Amazon, and Goodreads

A BLAST FROM THE PAST! Revisiting A VERY STRANGEHOUSE CHRISTMAS

* originally published for the 2013 Holiday Horror Binge & Purge event on DECEMBER 29, 2013

I’ve completed my [Goodreads] ˙·٠•●♥ 2013 Reading Challenge ♥●•٠·˙ – (ahead of schedule, and beyond my personal goal – go, me!) But, I’m still sitting here wishing I had read so much more! I need more time! More hours in the day, more days in the week… UGH! It’s so frustrating!
I started reading titles from StrangeHouse Books in 2013, and I wish I could say that I’m ending this year all caught up, that I’ve devoured them all quicker than a Cannibal in Fat Camp! ::sigh:: That, however, is not the case. But, it gives me a goal for 2014!!

A Very StrangeHouse Christmas

“This collection of 9 twisted tales of Christmas horror brings together weirdo literary talent from around the world, all with the sole purpose of turning the most sacred of holidays on its head, and making sweet, sweet love to its defenseless ear holes!”

“Join SHB ring leader Kevin Strange, as well as StrangeHouse anthology alumni Rich Bottles Jr., Jesse Wheeler, KM Tepe, and newcomers like Lindsey Goddard and MP Johnson on this sometimes magical, always fucked up journey to the north pole. We promise you’ll never look at Christmas the same way ever again!”

For last year’s ‘HOLIDAY HORROR BINGE & PURGE’ event, my main Holiday book to read, and review, was A HACKED-UP HOLIDAY MASSACRE. (It turned out to be a book of all holidays, not just Christmas, but ‘Irreverent Merriment, Diabolical Debauchery, and Gory Good Times‘ were had by all!!) Hacked Up HOLIDAY This year, I started earlier and got to fit in many more books from my holiday horror wish list. Two of this year’s reads are fighting for the top spot on my Happy List – A Very StrangeHouse Christmas is one of the two.

INTRODUCTION:  Kevin Strange

Kafka’s Run by Billy Tea:
The Kafka’s are Gift Heads & they’re in the run. Gift Heads are a slave race to the fat man. Raised in prison camps, tended to by elves, and eventually beheaded when they reach maturity. Their severed gift-heads are offered as sacrifice to appease the tiny Earth Gods. Fantastic story.
KafkasRun

Do Not Buy by MP Johnson:
A ‘Tickle This’ kind of story! Quick, gross, and wonderful!
ElmoAboutToGETTickled

The Unlisted by Jesse Wheeler:
YOU WANT NAUGHTY? You got it with this story! Sex, debauchery, violence, & more!

Things in here had me cracking up (in between a gag, or a cringe) – one hilarious fact about these elves… they shit the cookie dough that Mrs. Claus bakes for Santa. When TSHTF, there’s a line about an elf who got so scared “he nearly nogged his pants”!! (It makes perfect sense that they pee egg nog, if they shit dough, right?!) WARM & FRESH!

Dear Santa Claus by K.M. Tepe:
A letter to Santa from the Naughty K.M. Tepe – If I were the fat man, I’d make sure every item on that list was specially delivered with added bows made of cash…

Think twice before leaving me coal again, ya Prick!!
Think twice before leaving me coal again, ya Prick!!

*Message for K.M. Tepe:
Ever since I opened up my very first MySpace account, I’ve used the same line in the About Me section of practically every account – still using it today.
After reading your bio in the back of this book, I just wanted to make a note of it just in case you see it yourself somewhere. There’s no “This town ain’t big enough fir the both of us” reasoning or mentality behind this note – It’s more like a brunch invitation! If you’re ever in Detroit, look me up… we can hang out in the alley behind Poetry Slam, guzzling coffee, and poking the corpse of Wino Willie!

Blood On The Highway by Lindsey Goddard:
The anguish of a mother’s loss is not bound by species.
A woman, her husband, and his brother are driving through a terrible storm, on they’re way for what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday. This is a very good SS! I’m hoping that Lindsey sees this and can recommend a better pic – one that looks like the inside of her brain!

Kathi the Sexy Elf by Rich Bottles Jr.:
A department store Santa, who is following in his dad’s footprints as the jolly fat man for the same store, decides to do something remarkably sweet for his ‘Helper’ this year. The helper, Kathi, makes a very sexy elf, and she has some surprises of her own in store for Santa…

I can’t wait to read some of the stories in Rich’s ‘humorrorotica‘ genre! Some links are provided at the bottom.

Christmas with the Family by Jonathan Byrd:
This one should be called “A FUCKED UP FAMILY CHRISTMAS”.
Other Jonathan Byrd titles on Amazon include –
BIG, The Jar, UNSHACKLED, and The Mommies Club. But, after reading this short, I’m not entirely convinced that it’s the same guy!! 🙂

The Witch who Fucked Christmas by Kevin Strange:
This story is a tie in to one of Kev’s movies, but it stands alone just fine.
Set in STRANGEVILLE, ILLINOIS, a worn out & broke down Santa is about to go head to head with The Hag of Horrors herself – Sasparilla, The Weed Witch. The victor will hold the bag that contains all the magic of Christmas. But, you can’t expect the Hag of Horrors to play fair… can you?
