Garden of Fiends: Tales of Addiction Horror by Mark Matthews

Published July 10, 2017 by Shadow Girl

★★★★★  5 of 5 ★★★★★

* The reality of addiction is darker than any fiction. *
Drinking and drugging provide the height of human experience.
It’s the promise of heaven on earth,
but the hell that follows is a constant hunger, a cold emptiness.”

Before I read even one story in this ‘reality horror’ anthology – Mark Matthews had me crying so hard that I could barely see. He presents an addiction anthology with compassion, casting no aspersions.

I wan’t to meet Mark Matthews, and give him the tightest hug ever.

“Imagine yourself drowning and being told not to swim to the surface for air.
Obsessions should be so mild.”

I’ll have my full review posted soon – I was going over my notes for this review, and I’m ’emotional’ again…

Celebrate EASTER with The Rabbit Man, and Duncan Ralston!

Published April 14, 2017 by Shadow Girl

How far would you go for revenge?

When a six-year-old girl is abused and left for dead by a pedophile known only as the “Rabbit Man” due to the claw marks left on her body, police follow every lead but reach only dead ends.

Hungry for justice, her grieving father abandons wife and child on a harrowing journey deep undercover into Miami’s sex offender colony under the Julia Tuttle Causeway. His purpose is simple: to find the “Rabbit Man” among them, and put him in the ground.

Months later, with no one to trust and the pedophiles he lives among growing suspicious of his actions, he learns nothing is simple where the monsters live.

Imagine sitting down to a meal consisting of all your favorite foods.  WAIT! Let’s make this even more fun and pretend it’s your last meal before your execution – (yay)!

At first glance, my table would make most people chuckle because my favorite foods do not complement each other well, or at all. (I’m a grown ass woman and can have ice cream and Twinkies for dinner if I want to!).

My book shelf mirrors my dinner table / last meal.
Yes… I’m all about the extreme horror. Give me a story filled with buckets of gore, sprinkled with very wrong humor, and of course a gratuitous titty (or three) thrown in, and I’m in a very happy place.
BUT… I love ALL flavors of horror. Man cannot live on ice cream alone! Nor can I live on the extreme alone. Plus, [IMHO] there are only a handful of authors who can pull if off successfully – (for MY tastes).

Why the hell am I talking about this?  I’m so glad you asked!

REVENGE is a dish best served cold.

Dunc has proven to be quite the ‘master chef’.
Reread my review of GRISTLE & BONE – I think it was my first book by Duncan Ralston, and I didn’t know him then. I was floored by the stories in that collection by an author who was unknown to me at the time, and to this day I still go through a moment of mourning when I finish one of his books, not wanting it to come to an end. If you’ve read WOOM then you know he is one of the aforementioned authors who can pull off the extreme without losing the story.

WHERE THE MONSTERS LIVE is NOT an extreme horror story, but I want you to have a little ‘heads up’. It’s not super graphic, but it will sucker punch you right in the feels. It will disturb you a bit, and up the level if you have a child of your own.
I didn’t realize I was crying until The Dark Defender woke up to ask me what was wrong, and I had tears streaming down my cheeks.

I got a sinking feeling at one point, because I thought I knew exactly how this story was going to end (we’ll talk about it once you finish). That wouldn’t have made it a suck story – but I’m happy that it didn’t go for the ‘ironic twist’, and I’m very satisfied with how it’s wrapped up – and there could be a little wiggle room JIC case the story isn’t done with us yet.

I don’t think I need to say this, but for the record –
⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆  5/5 STARS!!  ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Before we wrap this up, please allow me one more moment of inappropriate, and probably unjustified humor here… I cannot remember when or why this popped in my head while reading, but it did, and now it’s going to get stuck in your head, too.  #earrape #psychodad

Be sure to grab the EASTER EGGS AND BUNNY BOILERS horror anthology before Sunday! While the rest of the fam is sitting around the table chewing with their mouths open, and talking about whoever is in the bathroom at the moment, you can keep your sanity by reading about the true meaning of Easter – demented rabbits, chocolate obsessed children drowning in their own greed, serial killers, and resurrection! YAY!!

MY LOVELY WIFE by Dani Brown

MY LOVELY WIFE
by Dani Brown
Print Length: 72 pages
Publisher: MorbidbookS. Everything Bleeds.

A story told by the most patient man in the world, his love at first sight and his obsession to make every perverse sexual fantasy a reality.
Despite the length of this book, it took me a little bit to finish it. I’d get squeamish, and have to put it down – only finding myself wondering what happened next.
Is it sexist to say that I was surprised that it was written by a woman? I hope not, because that’s the last thing that I am. I think that I’m just surprised that Dani Brown has such a strong command of this man’s psyche, and, well… his cock. Some of the detail, and descriptions, are just so spot on – IDK… I’ve seen men write from the women’s perspective, and not many have gotten it down to the point that I’d forget it was a man writing the story.
I didn’t realize this book was just released. I don’t remember how I ran across it, either. Surfing through bizarro blogs, I’m sure, but I wish I could remember exactly. While putting this post together, and gathering links, I found a great #FF – MorbidBooks & The Grim Reverend Steven Rage seem to be linked with LegumeManBooks (GN Braun, Matthew Revert, Bradley Sands, etc.), and that’s bonus points in my book! MorbidBooks has a WP site, (all the cool kids do!) – where everything bleeds, and I’ll most definitely be checking out more of their books, and writers.
I might need a break in between. Maybe go take a few showers, and a few Xanax. Watch some cartoons. Try to start eating again….

AMAZON SYNOPSIS:

HATE: A Love Letter

Published March 12, 2013 by Shadow Girl

*Oysters? Diamonds? Conch Chowder? Spanish Fly? Amateurs.
Poetry? Flowers? Lingerie? Perfume? Pretenders.
The truest, most powerful aphrodisiac isn’t any of these – it is hate. Sex does not live in our heads or our hearts, sex lives in our bowels, in the dark spaces within and below. Sex resides in our loins where hate festers, masticating us from within until we explode in a rage of passion. I am hate. I was not born of God’s heart or spirit, but emerged from his mighty taint to expose the power of hate, to show that it is the envy of love. To love someone is to think of them three times, five times, ten times a day. To hate thim is to never have them out of your thoughts. To hate someone is to be smothered by them, overwhelmed by feeling, made alive by their very existence. Love can be cured by a slight, by gossip, by rumor, by a pair of socks left unhampered or a slip of the tounge at a dinner party. Love is fragile. Love is the lie we tell ourselves to make all the other lies manageable. Hate is pure, though. Hate endures against all logic, against all arguement, against any attempted reconciliation. Send me chocolates, I still hate you. Say you’re sorry, I still hate you. Fix what you have broken, I still hate you. And what is a more powerful, complete and devastating expression of hate than sex? Is there a better way to focus hate than to purify it in the places where it is most comfortable? Have sex with someone you love and then have sex with someone you hate, and then tell me which is more satisfying. Tell me who you would rather see vunerable, empty, weakened to their most base and animalistic, a lover or an enemy? I pity those that love me more than those that hate me because the haters feel what I feel. The haters see me as I see them. I am bound to the haters by experience. To hate me is to understand me, to understand me is to love me – and to be loved by me. My experience of what you call love is limited, and that love is poisoned by pain. Hate, though? I’m lousy with hate. Hate is where I live. Those that claim to not hate might as well claim to not breathe or eat or think. To exist is to hate. To be alive is to understand that “you” is the truest word and that the only way to join another is to connect with their hate of you and your hate of them. I hate because I seek connection with the world. I seek understanding, a shared experience, a brotherhood with man. I yearn to be hated, so please, hate me my loves. Hate me with all that you are. Climax with hate at the very thought of me and together we will see the world.
