THE LAST MOTEL by Brett McBean

Published May 4, 2017 by Shadow Girl

They only wanted to stay one night.
But one night can last a lifetime at… THE LAST MOTEL.

The Lodgepole Pine Motel is the setting for nerve-wracking terror when a group of unsuspecting travelers find themselves trapped in a nightmare of violence and mayhem. Madge Fraiser is the kindly old owner of the rustic mountain hideaway, which, during one long night, will become awash with blood, as the guests are stalked one by one by a sadistic killer. Who will live to see the dawn, and who will learn that this is one motel where checking in can be murder?

Here’s a great question for everyone…
THE LAST MOTEL was published 07.31.2011 by LegumeMan Books*(awww… I MISS LegumeMan!!), so why the fuk did I JUST find it?! SOMEONE really should have recommended this to me years ago! Finger Of Shame, my friends. Finger Of Shame.

A husband and wife…
A pair of petty criminals…
A young man…
And a perverse serial killer…

It’s Halloween night, and the Lodgepole motel is seeing more action than it has in years. The owner can feel trouble coming as she checks in each of the guests. None of them can shake the feeling of déjà vu as they meet, and start to get to know each other.  They’ll soon find out they are all linked by events that happened earlier that night –  each link/event being more fukked up & twisted than the last!

I’m not going to take the chance of ruining this story for you, so as I’m shutting up – you need to go get this book & read it!! Hurry up, so we can talk about it!! I’m DYING!

LEGUMEMAN BOOKS: Saying Goodbye

Published August 14, 2015 by Shadow Girl

Dear all,

“It is our sad duty to inform you that LegumeMan Books is closing its doors. When we released our first book six years ago, we had no idea what we were hoping to achieve with this endeavor, and looking back, it seems we achieved rather a lot. We have put a lot of time and energy into doing everything we can to introduce readers to interesting authors while affording particular focus on the activities of the oft-ignored genre-writing scene in Australia. We hope we came some way toward achieving this goal.”

“The reasons for closing are many, but it can be distilled down to lack of time necessary to give our books the support they truly deserve. We could have kept going, but this would not have been in the best interest of the authors who entrusted us with their work. We want LegumeMan to be something we can look back at fondly, and prolonging closure would compromise that outcome.”

“To every person who ever spent their money on a LegumeMan book, or took time out of their day to promote us, we thank you. It truly means the world to us to know there are so many people out there who showed enthusiasm for the work of our wonderful authors. We would not have lasted this long without you and we owe you everything. Every royalty check our authors ever received from us, no matter how small, was entirely thanks to you.”

“So what does this all mean? Over the coming months, all of our titles will be delisted with the rights being given back to the authors. Some of these books may go on to live second lives and some may not. If there is a title you have been thinking about picking up, this may be your last opportunity to do so.”

“Thank you all once more. It has been wonderful and we will never forget it.”

Let the Night Be,

‘Hammered’ book trailer – from G.N.Braun

Published October 16, 2013 by Shadow Girl

G.N. Braun is an Australian writer, and current president of the Australian H.W.A.
He writes fiction across various genres, but I found his short stories while searching for horror – big surprise, right? I found his work on Legumeman Books, and have recently (with help from our favorite author stalker – Suzanne) become friends with him on Facebook and Goodreads. You can download his short stories ‘Boneyard Smack’, ‘Bubba wants YOU’, ‘Insurrection’, free from Legumeman Books.
Obviously, I love his work – or you wouldn’t be reading this. I especially liked his dark & gritty short story, ‘Boneyard Smack’. I realized last night that my review/discussion was originally posted on my first book blog at ZF. (We all know that I didn’t back-up my reviews then, and I lost everything when the site closed.) I will be redoing that post soon, so be sure to watch for it!
Being such a fan of ‘Boneyard Smack’ is, I believe, what led me to want to read his memoir so bad. Ok, well… that and my own past struggle with opiates. Hammered: Memoir of an Addict was released in early 2012 by Legumeman Books.

(Taken from Geoff’s blog – ) Hammered is a memoir of G.N. Braun’s twenty-five+ years of drug abuse and addiction, and the way he finally clawed his way back to sobriety. It follows the descent into casual use of marijuana, through the years of speed use, and finally into the twelve years of opiate addiction.
