TWO MINDS: 50 Shades Of Fucked Up – An Extreme Horror Novel by Matt Shaw & Sam West

Published December 6, 2016 by Shadow Girl

two-minds

My rating: 4 of 5 stars  ⋆⋆⋆⋆

These two authors are a match made in… well, Heaven for me!
I’ve been a fan of Matt’s for a very long time. When I stumbled across Sam’s work not very long after, the two people who introduced me to Matt said I’d enjoy Sam’s writing as well – (thank you Suzanne and Cathy!) – and they were right.
IMO, Sam West’s stories have been getting increasingly better this year, and this collaboration came at the perfect time for both of them.

“Two Minds” is told through the viewpoint of the two characters living the story.

The woman – convinced the man she is talking to is responsible for her sister’s disappearance – and the man… Who is he? Did he have anything to do with the sudden disappearance of Samantha’s sister or is he nothing more than an innocent bystander?

Only one thing is for sure… After this night, neither of them will be the same again.

I wish the ending were a little… ‘beefier’ (for lack of a better term, or perfect tongue in cheek?).  I just felt like I needed a bit more there, but that’s only one readers opinion.  I love how it was written. It’s a great style, and I bet we’ll see more authors experimenting with it. This story, (plus the little preview I had), has got me even more excited for The Devil’s Guests!! Have you been looking for something a bit more twisted than usual? The Devil’s Guests is gonna do things to you that no book has done before – trust!

A note to the authors… your introduction(s) made me laugh out loud at work. Thank you for helping convince my boss I’m a lunatic for sitting down to read “50 SHADES OF FUCKED UP” on my break, and giggling.

THE FUNERAL: An Extremely Twisted SHORT STORY by Matt Shaw

WARNING:

This is A SHORT STORY. It is intended for KU members who have been requesting short, sick, bedtime stories. As part of KU they are able to download this title for free.  If you wish for a longer story to read, do not purchase any of the F*cked-Up Shorts titles.  A good place to start would be The Black Cover Books (for lovers of extreme horror).

* What doesn’t kill you fucks you up mentally. *

The Funeral deals with grief, loss and redemption.
“You can expect twists & turns – be ready to feel a wide range of emotion.”
Never has a truer sentence been written.
Jason is a character that I can relate to.
He’s going through a bad time in his life right now. He is consumed with destructive thoughts, and wrestling with personal demons. Throughout the entire story I found myself laughing at one sentence, close to tears in the next sentence, and nodding my head in agreement at another.
Jason answers a late night phone call that gives him an ‘unexpected distraction’ from his self destructive thoughts, and it’s time for our second ride on that roller coaster!
It is so easy to see parts of myself in Jason, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who will feel this way.

I often find myself wondering if parts of certain stories are based on real events in the author’s life. I did that a lot in this book, especially when Jason thought about moments of happiness that the he shared with his mom. (Matt – go hug your mom!) Not every memory is a great one, there are regrets – just like real life.

The ending was a very unexpected script twist! Trust me… this is one that you wont see coming.

*BONUS POINTS for the ‘failed gas oven suicide attempt’!!
(Depression + OCD = hilarity!)
*EVEN MORE BONUS POINTS for Jason’s reasons to pass on each method on the internet’s ‘top ten’ list.

BUCKET LIST by Dawn Cano

This is a book of extreme horror.

Please do not purchase if you are easily shocked or offended.

 5/5 Revenge Stars

Let’s talk about this as the people we really are deep down inside,  not the everyday face we project to strangers and coworkers.  We are the readers, the writers, and the lovers of true horror – so, let’s not pretend that we don’t have a rough outline of what we would like to do in any number of different situations. We’ve watched enough CSI and Forensic Files to help us feel pretty confident about our chances of getting away with… things – even our host Bill Curtis would agree! 😉

What would you do if you found out that your spouse was cheating on you?

What if it wasn’t a ‘just’ a one night stand, but a three month affair?

What if you found out that your lying, cheating spouse had a three month affair with someone who infected them with HIV, and they’ve lovingly shared it with you?

Mike Hickman is pondering these exact thoughts in Dawn Cano’s new short BUCKET LIST.  Needless to say… Mike is pissed!  He is going to make sure that his wife Emilia dies a very slow, and very painful death. He thinks “she owed me”, well… she sure is gonna pay!  Like us, Mike has watched a fair amount of horror movies and read a metric fuck-ton of horror books – so he has some pretty nifty ideas in store for his loving wife.  He even pulls out a recent title from one of his favorite extreme horror authors to use as a guide… this is gonna be FUN!

Our Dawn has become one hell of an author!  Her work leans a little more towards the extreme horror side, but she is writing great books without compromising her stories for mere shock value.  Another thing that I appreciate while reading Dawn’s work… whether she’s hidden something in a little quote that only a select few will ‘get’ right away, christened her characters with noteworthy names, or just taken the direct route and specifically named other authors and/or books… she ‘pays tribute’ to the people that have influenced her, and helped get her to where she is today. I think that is awesome, and it gives me a warm fuzzy ❤

I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us!

WATCHING, WAITING: A F*cked Up Short by Matt Shaw

Matt Shaw is known for his extreme stories. He enjoys pushing boundaries and making people feel uncomfortable. Usually. This is not one of those tales. There is not much blood and guts. Some tales just do not need it. There are, though, twists and turns aplenty…

Will has only one thing on his mind… revenge.

He stalks Travis in the shadows, watching… waiting…

I thought I knew where this story was going, but I was wrong! This is a heart-wrenching short – love, loss, and not knowing how to go on once the unthinkable happens. Is there anything that can ever make you feel better – revenge? Forgiveness?

This was a hard journey to take.

TED: A F*cked Up Short by Matt Shaw

“Today was a good day.” ~ Ted

WARNINGS:

This is A SHORT STORY. If you wish for a longer story to read, do not purchase any of the F*cked-Up Shorts titles.

“TED is an extreme character.  He is a racist, ignorant piece of shit. The views he expresses within this story DO NOT reflect the views of the author.  And fear not, he hets what he deserves in ROTTING DEAD F*CKS.” ~ms

“TED is featured heavily in ROTTING DEAD F*CKS by Matt Shaw.  You don’t need to read R.D.F.  first. This is a standalone short offering more from the character.”

Since the books in the White Cover Collection are short stories, I can’t go into a lot of detail without fear of ruining them for you.  It’s not just about giving away the ending – there is so much awesome jam packed into each short that I don’t want to give much of anything away!!

I do know that Matt has verified my reservation in Hell with this story!
Yeah, Ted is a piece of human garbage, but some of his attempts at humor, (and some of his attempts at humanity), had me giggling like a kid who is secretly listening to his grandparent’s Red Foxx albums in the basement!  Wrong on so many levels.
But… before you judge me, let me try to explain using the cat joke (which also had me laughing, heartily) here as an example. I would never hurt an animal. Ever. I know, for a fact, that Matt is an animal lover. He has a cat named Nellie, a lizard named Larry, and doesn’t even like to kill spiders – even though there isn’t much in the world that he hates more than the eight legged freaks.  (I swear that I’m not a stalker. This comes from years of being friends on Facebook, and an indepth author interview here on BBBB. Honest.)  So – when I learned how to make a cat go ‘woof’… I accidentally giggled before I made an audible groan at the bad joke.  THAT DOESN’T MEAN THAT I THINK THAT WAY, and it doesn’t mean that I would ever try to make a cat go ‘woof’. But, it was kinda funny.
So are some of Ted’s thoughts.

Ted’s not ALL bad. Mostly. But not all.  He did leave me with a couple pieces of wisdom…
“If she thinks so little of herself, how am I expected to think highly of her?” ~ Ted
“For all we know, I am the sane one and it’s everyone else who has a serious case of the ‘fuck-ups’.”
~ Ted
“Just a hooker. Another dead hooker.” ~ Ted

As an added surprise… I also learned about many different weird and wonderful sex acts that a lot of people have no idea about! I’ll admit that I did already know what The Donkey Punch is, (don’t judge me!), but The Strawberry Shortcake, and The Alabama Hot Pocket were new!! I’ve also noticed a reoccurring ‘trick’ that has popped up in a couple of the Fucked Up Shorts! Do with that information what you will – I just made a mental note of it.

I’m enjoying the books in the White Cover Collection. Chances are… if you’re already a fan of Matt, you’ll enjoy them, too.

You can meet TED through Amazon, and Goodreads.

LAB RAT: A NOVEL OF EXTREME HORROR, SEX, AND GORE by Matt Shaw

Published November 20, 2015 by Shadow Girl

Before the cures, there are the experiments.

His heart was in the right place.
His mind, though, was in a much darker place.

If horror movies have taught us anything, it’s that the big, beautiful house that you’re looking at – the one that is priced WAY too low to be able to believe – is being sold for a reason!  Just look what happened in Amityville!

When the HOUSE says "Get out" - you GTFO!!

When the HOUSE says “Get out” – you GTFO!!

Becky & Kevin have obviously never watched a horror movie, and are moving in to their nice, new, creepy AF home – with the added bonus of getting to keep the previous tenant’s belongings! YAY! Those hospital beds in the attic will sure come in handy!

The couple doesn’t have to worry about the walls bleeding, or flies taking over the bedroom. Their house isn’t haunted. This isn’t the Amityville Horror! Becky & Kevin’s horror story is only beginning, and their fate is much, much worse.

The doctor is IN!

Fun excerpt from LAB RAT:

“You like to read?” the realtor asked – hoping to find a common interest to make her more of an option to purchase from.

“I do,” Becky’s answer was short and sweet.

“Who’s your favorite? I’m a sucker for Stephen King. The way he builds his characters up, adding layer, upon layer… He is a true master of his craft.”

“He is,” Becky answered. Again, keeping it short and sweet.

“My wife prefers… Oh… What are their names… Matt Not Shaw and Iain Rob Wrong.”

“Excuse my husband, he’s being an idiot.”

LAB RAT by Matt Shaw is available on Amazon for $2.99, FREE for KU subscribers!
