JEREMY: EVIL HAS ONE NAME by Matt Hickman

Published May 5, 2016 by Shadow Girl

King Jeremy The Wicked

Clearly I remember
Pickin’ on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
But we unleashed a lion
Gnashed his teeth
And bit the recessed lady’s breast
How could I forget

Jeremy is a pretty normal eleven year old, but things are about to change.

His parents are virtually absent in his life, and his home is a lonely place to be. He doesn’t want for material possessions, all he really wants is his parents time and affection.
Instead they spoil him with expensive gifts to compensate for not spending any time with him. His dad’s priority is his work, and he is rarely home – working late or off on another business trip. His mom considers him to be nothing but a hindrance – she doesn’t have time for that in her all-important, self-involved life. She’d rather spend time with her friends than with her own flesh and blood.

He has two best friends; Cole and Samuel. The trio have been practically inseparable since kindergarten. They stay out of any real trouble, and do well in school. They’re not considered the ‘popular kids’, but they’re not outcasts either.

Within two weeks of starting high school together – all that changed. A minor altercation in the lunchroom turned into constant bullying by two other students. The trio did their best to avoid the bullies, and Jeremy even tried to talk to his mom about the problem. He said “They’re making my life a complete misery”, and she just blew him off with a ‘boys will be boys’ attitude as she got ready to leave for a shopping trip with her friends. The very next day Jeremy and Samuel were attacked by one of the bullies, and a freak accident landed them in the hospital putting Jeremy in a coma and fighting for his life.

Jeremy was a good kid.
He didn’t mean for any of this to happen.
But something sinister rises inside him when he awakes, and for the first time in his life… he feels alive and truly powerful.

THE DUMPING GAME by Stephen Donald Huff

Published May 1, 2016 by Shadow Girl

I recently had a chat with Stephen Donald Huff in the comments of a review I posted for another one of his short stories, (check out SHIT on it’s Amazon page. and read my review HERE).

Stephen recommended a few titles that he thought I might enjoy based on my review of SHIT  – he suggested Perverse (“a semi-biographical sketch”), Mr. Accident, Horrid Torrid, and, this book especially – The Dumping Game. I’m really happy that we finally connected, and that he told me about some of his favorites because picking my next read gets difficult when there are so many new (to me) titles to choose from

Because he stated that The Dumping Game  is “a personal favorite and also semi-biographical”,  it’s the one that I chose to download first. Now… the actual Dumping Game is on my “Things To Do Before I Die” bucket list >.<

What is The Dumping Game?

As its name implies, it begins with garbage and ends with garbage, but its ultimate goal is the destruction of human lives and the dismantlement of otherwise happy families.

We get to follow along as the game progresses from ‘a harmless prank to a journey into madness‘.  Whenever I found myself starting to empathize with the ‘prankee’, my inner demon poked her little head out and laughed manically while making a mental list of potential victims!  3:)

Now I need to find out which parts of this story are ‘semi-biographical’! Care to chime in on this, Steve? We want details!

New Holiday Horrors!

Published December 25, 2015 by Shadow Girl

Need something new to read over the holidays?

Here are two new releases that I’m very excited about, and just bought them both…

William Malmborg’s Santa Took Them
feels like a Christmas-y version of HALLOWEEN – I can’t wait to read it.  Here’s a quote from one Amazon reviewer – “Santa Took Them is a fun horror read for the season.”

Christmas Eve 2005. Eight year old Michelle Harper is the only survivor in a horrific massacre that has left her four siblings decapitated, and her mother slowly dying as her innards ooze out onto the second floor landing, the words SANTA TOOK THEM written in blood on the bedroom wall.

Ten years later, having been released from a psychiatric hospital for children, Michelle disappears, her uncle and his girlfriend found hacked to death with a knife before being decapitated, the words SANTA TOOK THEM once again written in blood on the wall.

Dr. Samantha Loomis had no plans for the holidays, and was hoping to spend the time simply relaxing in her home. That all changes when the police begin asking her questions about Michelle, questions that make it fairly clear that they believe her to be guilty of the recent slayings.

No one in Holly Brook, IL has forgotten the horror that unfolded on Christmas Eve all those years ago, and now, as a terrifying blizzard descends upon the small isolated town, and teens begin disappearing one by one, it looks as if that gruesome night was only the beginning.

Matt Shaw’s A Christmas Cackle: F*cked-Up Festive Shorts is from his Fucked Up Shorts collection – written mainly for KU subscribers, but still a steal at $.99! (IMO: All the books in the white cover series are worth owning!)

“These Christmas short stories are for hardcore horror fans.”

Christmas is a time for love and peace and…. oh, bollocks to that! Bah Humbug and all that! Give me Halloween over Christmas any time! Think of me as The Grinch! Think of me as Scrooge! Think of me as the miserable git who won’t be buying you a present this year because… Well…. You don’t deserve one and I am tighter than a duck’s arse! And – as for this book – think of this as short stories based around Christmas in typical Matt Shaw style. An ‘up yours’ to the festive period containing dark tales of horror and twists that you don’t see coming no matter how many Shaw books you have read.

Contained within this book:

The Night Before
Marley
The Snowman
Author Facts (based around Christmas no less)
Krampus

And the short story “This is HORROR” which introduces you to a key character coming in 2016…

PLEASE NOTE: There is VERY bad language in this book. If easily offended – do yourself a favour and sod off. This book isn’t for you.

What are you reading over the holidays?

SNUFF: A F*cked Up Short by Matt Shaw

Published November 21, 2015 by Shadow Girl

WARNINGS:

“This is A SHORT STORY. It is intended for the members of Kindle Unlimited who have been requesting short, sick, bedtime stories. As part of Kindle Unlimited they are able to download this title for free. If you wish for a longer story to read, please do not purchase any of the ‘F*cked-Up Shorts’. ”

SNUFF is loosely based on Dan Brownlie‘s idea for a faux snuff film (‘2 Girls, 1 Victim’ – screenplay also written by Matt Shaw).

Expect twists galore and sheer brutality!

Nikki and Jamie have taken SNUFF mainstream* – serving up punishment when the court system fails, and vigilante justice has never been sexier!

*Well, as mainstream as you can be online without getting caught. There are actually only a select few who know of the show, each member personally invited.

Tonight’s episode of ‘Two Girls, One Victim’ has a very special guest – a rapist named Jack Goodall. Specific tools chosen just for the guest of honor are laid out,  and gleaming under the set’s lights. Pliers, a hammer, nails, screws, hacksaws, piano wire, rope, duct tape, an adult sex-toy, and what appeared to be a small bottle of lube. Things might get messy, and the members are definitely going to get their money’s worth from this show!

You can find Snuff: An Extreme Horror SHORT STORY
on Amazon, and Goodreads.

WATCHING, WAITING: A F*cked Up Short by Matt Shaw

Matt Shaw is known for his extreme stories. He enjoys pushing boundaries and making people feel uncomfortable. Usually. This is not one of those tales. There is not much blood and guts. Some tales just do not need it. There are, though, twists and turns aplenty…

Will has only one thing on his mind… revenge.

He stalks Travis in the shadows, watching… waiting…

I thought I knew where this story was going, but I was wrong! This is a heart-wrenching short – love, loss, and not knowing how to go on once the unthinkable happens. Is there anything that can ever make you feel better – revenge? Forgiveness?

This was a hard journey to take.

O IS FOR ORIFICE by Iain Rob Wright

O is for Orifice (A-Z of Horror 15)O is for Orifice by Iain Rob Wright
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Of all the senses, sight must be the most delightful.” ~ Helen Keller

Elanor woke up at 7 a.m., and started to get ready for work like any other morning. And, like most mornings, she isn’t surprised to smell weed coming from the neighbor’s apartment. Things started getting weird as she was showering. All of a sudden – she couldn’t breathe! She starts to panic, not surprisingly, and everything gets worse… She knows that she has to get help before she suffocates inside her own body – but she is lightheaded and could lose consciousness before she can find help. Elanor musters up everything she has in her and makes her way to the window before she passes out.
As Elenor’s mom recalls the details, we find out exactly what happened inside the apartment, and the events that led to her daughters condition.

This is a very claustrophobic story, and I had a hard time making it through to the end without having to go outside for some air!

N IS FOR NIGHTMARE by Iain Rob Wright

“Drugs are a bet with your mind.” ~ Jim Morrison

Finally home after an all night booze-and-drug-a-thon, Norman just wants to grab some post party food, (his mouth tastes like alcohol and bad decisions), and crawl into bed for the next 24 hours. The little girl carrying the dead cat might make sleep difficult for him though.
He’s not hallucinating, she’s standing right in front if him in her blue nightgown, and frizzy red hair. This isn’t something that Norman can wake up from, and his nightmare is only beginning.
